Tutto Passa

“Tutto passa” is an Italian saying that means “everything passes”. And it serves as a simple but impactful reminder that life is always changing and nothing lasts forever.

The phrase is most commonly recalled while enduring life’s difficult times; the times we feel pain, sadness and discomfort. But it also applies to the joys of life; the times we feel happiness, love and comfort.

Because everything passes: good and bad alike.

It’s only natural, though, to seek relief when we’re hurting. Time feels elongated when we’re in pain. That’s why tutto passa is most commonly remembered when life gets hard; it helps knowing the pain won’t last forever.

But it shouldn’t just motivate us to white-knuckle our way through hard times. Rather, it should be a mantra that helps us build patience and resilience when we have challenges to endure.

It’s just as important, though, if not more important, to ground ourselves with this mantra when the joys of life are most abundant. Because time passes much faster when we’re enjoying it. So it’s crucial to be present during those times and savor them before they’re gone.

While it might seem sad to think about the end of a good thing while you’re still experiencing it, I don’t see it that way. In fact, taking a moment to appreciate something or someone in the moment, knowing it won’t last forever, magnifies the joy of the moment.

I hope that tutto passa serves as a reminder for you to be patient and resilient when life inevitably gets hard but grounded and appreciative when life gifts you with abundant joy.

I’m grateful for you all, my friends.

Tutto passa!
